SciGuy Report on October 7, 2012

Enjoy the cool weather while it lasts. Highs Sunday are forecast to reach only the mid-60's across most of the metro area. Houston hasn't had a daily high temperature in the 60's since April 10, half a year ago. Alas, the cooler weather won't last for more than a few days, and then it looks quite warm until around Oct. 20, or so.

Check Out my NEW Swann RemoteCam!

The camera is shaped like a car remote key! It's great for recording covert surveillance or everyday life. It can also take still pictures although the quality is pretty poor. As you can see, I added a time stamp to the video. You can do so by opening up Notepad and typing in the date and time, then copying it to the included MicroSD card.

SciGuy Report on July 1, 2012

Although Houston has recently enjoyed some moderate temperatures, much of the country has been baking. According to the Weather Underground website, 15 of the 303 major cities in the United States have set all-time heat records in the past five days. Last year, the second warmest summer in U.S. history, only 10 of the 303 cities set all-time heat records.

OHMYGOSHHHH.

YEA FOR CAPS LOCK RAGE. WE'RE OFFICIALLY 1/4 INTO THE SUMMER!

Our summer so far...

Haven't posted in a while! Hope you've been keeping up with everything we're posted on our blog so far.

Howdy! Our (actually MY) summer has been pretty busy so far. A few days into the summer I began volunteering for Vacation Bible School (VBS) in a nearby church. This lasted for a week. And the kiddos I led were so awesomely cute, heheheh. :D After that finished, I got a full week to rest. SOOO RELAXING. Then began my super torturous physical education summer school. I am sore everyday because of it. So that's my summer so far. After P.E. is over, vacation to canada immediately follows. And a week after that is camp challenge!

So, how about you guys' summers?? Comment below! Stay awesome fellas.

SciGuy Report on June 16, 2012

Halfway through the month, the city of Houston has an average temperature of nearly 84 degrees, which is about 2 degrees above normal. All things considered, it's been a seasonal June, and that seems likely to continue with partly to mostly cloudy days ahead and highs in the low 90's. Last year, we had our first 100 degree day on June 2. None so far this year.

SciGuy Report on April 9, 2012

More than 7,700 daily temperature records were broken in the United States in March, with warm records topping cold records by more than 10 to 1. This followed the fourth warmest U.S. winter on record. It's been so warm in the nation's breadbasket that in Iowa more than 58 percent if the state's oats crop is planted. Normally by this time of year just 7 percent is in the ground.

SciGuy Report on March 18, 2012

It's been a really warm week in Houston, with temperatures running 10 to 12 degrees above normal. The humidity will be with us a few more days, and next Tuesday should bring widespread rain totals of at lest 1 inch. But beyond that a cooler, drier air mass will make things feel more like March than May. The second half of this week should see highs in the 70's and lows near 50.

SciGuy Report on March 10, 2012

You think Texas has some extreme weather? Hardly. Consider the world's extremes from February. Both Roebourne, Western Australia (on Feb. 16), and Redelinghuys, South Africa (on Feb. 5), recorded highs of 114.3 degrees. The coldest temperature for February also was recorded in the Southern Hemisphere, Antarctica. The Dome A site had a low of -84.5 degrees. Summer in Antarctica!

SciGuy Report on March 2, 2012

These are leap day records, to be sure, yet both Bush Intercontinental Airport and Hobby Airport smashed records on Wednesday. The official station's daily minimum temperature of 71 ended up being 7 degrees warmer than the city's previous record high minumum temperature if 64 in 1932. And Hobby Airport, which had a low of 70, whacked the record of 61 set in 2008.

SciGuy Report on February 26, 2012

Houston's average temperature through Friday for this month is 59.4 degrees, which is 3.4 degrees above normal. We'll likely end the month a few degrees above normal with our slightly chilly end to the month. Winter offers great extremes when it comes to temperatures. The year 1895 recorded the lowest February of all time, at 44.2 degrees. The warmest, 65.9 degrees, came in 1962.

SciGuy Report on January 28, 2012

Before the arrival of this weekend's reinforcing cool front, Houston has been having a very warm January. Through Thursday, the city's average temperature of 59.3 degrees was 6.3 degrees above normal, ranking it as the eighth-warmest January on record. However, this weekend's chilly temperatures should push the month out of the top 10. Forecasters say early February looks warm.

SciGuy Report on January 12, 2012

Houston has yet to have a "hard freeze" this winter, defined by the National Weather Service as temperatures reaching 28 degrees or colder. This winter's two coldest nights came on Dec. 7 and 8, when the temperature bottomed out at 29 degrees. The long-term GFS forecast shows cooler weather during the middle of the week, but has no freezes, let alone hard freezes, occuring in the next two weeks.
